Kyoshi Lloyd Knight & Shihan Karen Knight

Kobayshi Shorin Ryu Karatedo
Zen Okinawan Kobudo

It is with great pride that I would like to formally acknowledge my instructors who began my study in Okinawan karatedo kobudo.  In 1985, I looked around for a good karate school and instructor with a "no none sense" attitude for my son, who was 5 years old at the time.   When I first met Kyoshi and Shihan Knight I knew then that they were the instructors for my son, Jr.  They taught with strictness, and emphasize on good discipline.  In addition, with their knowledge of martial arts, they were able to impart the kind of example in what you can get out of karate.  After a year and a half  I decided to join karate myself to help motivate my son, but with great surprise it helped me to understand more about myself and it opened up a new and better world for me.
In 1989 my son and I earned our black belts, testing in front of  Tadashi Yamashita Sensei.  Not long after that my daughter, Erica joined karate.  And in March of 1999 she earned her senior black belt.
I followed my instructors from the original Groton karate dojo to the Westerly, RI dojo and then onto the New London, CT karate dojo, where in 1991 I was promoted to 2nd Dan and went into joint ownership.  Little did I know that shortly after that my instructors would leave me the rest of the school for me to begin my journey as the East Coast representative of Yamashita International Karate.
Kyoshi and Shihan Knight now own and operate a very successful Yamashita  International Karate Dojo in Temecula, California.  I wish them the best of luck in all the years to come, and offer my deepest thanks and sincerity for all that they have done for me!  Thank you and God bless.
